What is 3D Secure payment and two-factor authentication?

With the new EU requirements for online trade, which came into effect on 4 January 2021, you will from now on have to approve your payments online with either MitID or an SMS code (two-factor authentication).

When a payment is to be approved with two security factors, it provides even greater security and identification for online payments. In this way, it becomes more difficult for IT criminals to misuse payment cards.

This means in practice that you, when you are to pay, will be asked to use either MitID or an SMS code.

Pay with payment card and MitID

If you choose to pay with a payment card, you will from now on always be asked to use so-called 3D Secure or two-factor authentication.

New identification solution - NemID has been replaced by MitID, and you will be asked to use this logo when you pay online at webshops.

What is MitID?

MitID is the future solution to NemID. To increase the security of online trade, NemID is being replaced by MitID, which will ensure your online security. All payments will be digitalised, and this means that the physical NemID card will be abolished, and you will from now on have to verify your identity through the MitID app on your smartphone or tablet.
 

How to pay with MitID

1. Enter card details

When you complete your order, you will need to enter the following information:

• Card number
• Expiry date
• Control digits (CVV/CVC number)

2. Approve payment

Your payment will then need to be approved in one of the following two ways:

• Approve with MitID app or SMS code: Enter your username and password, and approve the payment via MitID or SMS code. When you have entered your MitID user ID and selected "continue", you will need to open the MitID app as usual.

You will then see a QR code, where you entered your user ID. Scan the QR code with the MitID app. The camera will automatically switch.

• One-time code and personal code: You will receive a one-time code via SMS, which you will need to enter with a personal code. This requires that you have registered your mobile number and a code word for your card.

You will automatically be redirected to a payment window. Here, you can verify the transaction either by selecting SMS code or MitID.

If you choose SMS code:

If you have set up your mobile number and personal code with Nets, you will receive an SMS from Nets with a one-time code, which you will need to enter together with a personal code.
If you have not previously set up your mobile number and personal code, you can do so via Nets. This is only necessary the first time you need to approve an online payment. This will be done on Nets' website (åbner in a new window). You will then automatically receive an SMS from Nets with a one-time code, which you will need to use together with your payment card.
